This is a long-term opportunity for experienced gas plant, midstream, refinery, petrochemical, and heavy industrial operators looking to build a career with a growing operations company.
Successful candidates will join Ironback Controls as part of our expanding operations team and will have the opportunity to work at a variety of client facilities throughout the United States.

Automation Controls Specialist
Midstream Gas Processing Facilities — Midland, Texas
Are you an experienced automation professional ready to take on challenging, high-impact work in the Permian Basin? Ironback Controls is building out our automation division, and we want you to be part of it.
In this role, you'll design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC and DCS control systems that keep midstream gas processing facilities running safely and efficiently. You'll also help shape the future of our automation division by scoping projects and preparing technical proposals — your expertise will directly influence how we grow.
This is a fly-in fly-out position based in Midland, TX, with remote work flexibility depending on project demands.
- •Design and program PLC/DCS control logic (ladder, structured text, function block) for fractionation, treating, dehydration, chilling, and storage systems
- •Configure and troubleshoot HMIs, SCADA systems, and historian databases
- •Design and optimize industrial automation networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
- •Support commissioning, startup, and optimization for upgrades, expansions, and new builds
- •Maintain documentation including logic diagrams, control narratives, and as-built drawings
- •Travel to plant sites for on-site programming and technical support
- •U.S. or Canadian citizenship/permanent residency
- •Diploma or degree in Instrumentation, Electrical/Electronics, Automation Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- •Vendor certification in Rockwell Automation and Emerson DeltaV (required)
- •5–7+ years hands-on PLC and DCS programming in industrial process environments
- •Experience with HMI development (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, DeltaV Live, or equivalent) and SCADA systems
- •Strong knowledge of industrial networks, 4-20 mA, and HART instrumentation
- •Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control narratives
- •Valid driver's license; ability to pass background/drug screenings
- •Red Seal Instrumentation & Control Technician certification (or equivalent) strongly preferred
